Aligning competence-oriented qualifications in sport management higher education with industry requirements: An importance–performance analysis

This article examines the fit (or lack thereof) between competencies needed by sport industry and proficiency of management students. The authors apply importance–performance analysis as a strategic tool to analyze results two competence-oriented datasets in German context. They find that students’ self-identified is lower than importance attributed experts. critically discuss absence differences perceived performance Bachelor’s Master’s degree students provide recommendations for higher education. highlights development communication generic unique selling proposition reflect on need improve subject-specific further professionalize field management. Based these results, critical reflection curriculum design education needed.
